Dusk was heavy now; she could see the colours of orange and purple in their swirling mix through the open window. Hazy of course from the mist that always seemed to make itself known in their village. Deep blue eyes slowly fell from the sky outside to the half eaten ramen infront of her. She poked and prodded it with her chopsticks before sighing. She was nervous. Or perhaps anxious? Probably a mix of the two.
The teams would be decided tomorrow and Rinmi re-adjusted her Mizu Genin head band with a small swell of pride. But who would she be placed with? She was a bit younger than most of the Genin in her classes, mostly because of her booksmarts. They should do more physical exams she thought in her nervousness, I won't beable to keep up with the more experiences fighters...
A small frown fell upon her young face as she flipped open her book again to the page she had been up to. She had to shake her jitters; concentrate on something else. I'll just have to try harder...push myself she decided, but soon gained a dreamy eyed expression, Perhaps I could ask Sejiriku Rauzure to help me again...
The short girl had developed quite a crush on the older Genin, but also respected his ninja skills. He was a great teacher and was more than happy to give her a few pointers when she approached him. Rinmi smiled softly before shaking her head in an amused fashion. How silly she was, but she couldn't help it. She could only dream that she would be in the same team as him.
The ebony haired girl soon shook her mind from the boy however and lectured herself to study; for her sanity's sake. Rinmi was fully emersed in the theory's behind jutsu creation to even notice anyone approach her.

"C'mon, Seji!" the laught-filled shouts and calls could be heard from quite a ways down the street, announcing the arrival of a small group of teens. Teenage boys, to be exact. And a very rowdy group at that, it seemed.
There were only five in total, all bearing their over-polished 'head bands.' Despite their designated names, the boys wore theirs in various fashions, on various arieas of their bodies. One wore his just above the knee, another wore his as a belt, while others had tied theirs soundly about some part of their arm. Only one wore it upon his forhead where it had originally been meant to wear, and that one at current was being circled by his companions.
"There's this great sushi place just up the road! It's not too expensive either. C'mon Seji!"
Sejirku Raizure sighed and shook his head for what must have been the hundredth time that evening. His red hair feel in front of his eyes for a moment, briefly obscuring his green eyes, freckles, and his newly acquired Genin headband. His friends, in their excitement with graduating, must have asked him to accompany them dozens upon dozens of times. And they must have forgot just how stubborn their friend was.
"I told you, all of you... The ramen house is much closer to where I'm staying. It's getting late, and all I want to do is eat and then go back to my room." The red-head stated calmly, his pace liesurely as he strode up sthe street, his hands clasped behind his back while his friends walked in front of him.
"Yeah, go back to your room to study! That's all you ever do, Seji."
"Well, it would explain why he did better than you Itaki." There was an appreciative laugh from the entire group at this, even Sejiriku's face lit up at the comment.
"You enjoy your sushi, all right? Ramen suits me fine tonight... Maybe some other time." Sejiriku grinned at his friends, raising his hand in a brief parting wave as he reached the main doors to the soup house. His grin grew as his friends made a collective groaning noise and all rolled their eyes together.
"Don't worry, we will. Just let us know when you come out of that cave you call a room and venture from your studying." A few other parting comments were made before the small group dispersed, leaving the new genin to step inside and shut the door behind him.
It didn't take the young man long to find a decent seat, as it wasn't too packed full of people; at this hour, most people were returning home from work to dine with their families. Even he would have been dining with his family, if they had been in town. But Sejiriku had traveled a fair distance just to be able to attend the acadamey of the Mist village. And so, he dined alone, something he was growing very accustomed to. Not that he minded... The quiet was actually rather peaceful.
Taking his seat at an empty table, the red-head sank into his chair, eyes closing blissfully at the first opportunity he'd had to sit that day. It'd been a long day... It always was after tests, but this test had been much different. He'd finally graduated, and he'd done quite well too. He'd most certainly have to write home to his parents about it... They would be proud.
However, there were a number of students who had done remarkably well. And as Sejiriku gazed around the shop waiting for his ramen, his green eyes landed on one of those particular students. Kumiko Rinmi. She was younger than most of this year's genins to graduate, but for good reason. The girl was brilliant, able to take the instructions from a book and repeat them as if she'd done the move for years. It had been no wonder she'd passed near the top of the class.
As soon as his ramen was placed in front of him, Sejiriku picked it back up again and rose from his seat. Stepping carefully so as not to spill his meal, the young man approached Rinmi's table, ignoring the faint burning in his hands as he stood off to the side. When she didn't look up, still engrossed in her book, the young man gave a small smirk and cleared his throat. "Uh... this seat taken?"

The noise of a throat clearing itself went unnoticed by the seated girl. The deep voice of the young man before her did not. Rinmi gave a gasp at his voice and the chopsticks she was fiddling with snapped as her grip increased. Dark blue eyes flicked up to no less than Sejiriku Raizure, her large orbs sparkling with disbelief. Was he talking to her? "Uh...This seat?" she stuttered slightly before lecturing herself intensely to calm down, "No! It's not taken; you're more than welcome to take it."
Her normally quiet voice was a little more chirpy in the red-head's presence and she couldn't help but grin at her luck. He wanted to sit with her? The thought made her giddy. She soon shoved her girlish crush to one side however as she realised she was staring dreamily up at the Genin. A light blush warmed her cheeks and she laughed nervously before disposing of her broken chopsticks and taking another pair from the holder at end of the table.
Rinmi closed her book with a dull thud to be polite and poked at her now cold ramen with her new chopsticks. She must have been reading for longer than intended; that happened often. But she would eat it. Her parents couldn't afford much for her, so she took what she could. "...Are you looking forward to tomorrow, Sejiriku?" she asked, returning her attention to the boy infront of her with his stunning green eyes.

With a grin, Sejiriku nodded to his classmate when she finally did acknowledge his presence. Well, she had been his classmate, back at the academy, but now they had graduated... There were no classrooms, only teams. Teams that were chosen by their old senseis, the Chuunin... From there they were handed off to the next level of instructors, the Jounin.
Taking the empty seat across from Rinmi, Sejiriku had the chance to munch a few of his noodles as the young woman put her things to the side and poked at her own slightly cold ramen with her replacement chopsticks. Eyeing her soup for a moment, Sejiriku smirked faintly before sliding his toward her side of the table. "I'll trade you. Cold's much better than warm."
He wasn't a picky eater. Never had been. And he really did like the cold ramen better. Must have been one of those odd 'acquired taste' things. As he waited, he folded his arms across the table and looked over at the other newly appointed Genin.
"I am. A bit curious as to who our sensei paired us up with, not that it matters; they know best when it comes to their jobs, I suppose." He said thoughtfully, bunching his shoulders in a small shrug. "And what about you? Have your nerves gone away, or did they only get worse?"

Her blush intensified and Rinmi blinked with surprise. His small smirk almost distracted her from the words that left the young man's mouth. "Really?" her blush intensified aswell as her smile at the sincerity in his eyes, "...Well, thankyou! But I'll only have half; its only fair. And I'm sure you can eat more than me." She laughed a little at their height difference and slid her bowl forward in offering.
He was so nice. It was rare for a student of his reputation to look twice at her, least of all talk to her. Rinmi smiled at the Genin with gratitude for his kindness and the warm ramen before taking a tiny slurp of her new meal. The long-haired girl paused at his question. "My nerves are a little on edge at the moment, as you could probably tell," she gave a sheepish smile as her blush finally dulled, "I'm not sure if I will sleep tonight..."
She hoped she would. Rinmi wanted to be as alert as possible for tomorrow's big event. It was pretty exciting once all the suspence was taken out of the equation. "...Where are your friends?" she asked a little more quietly. If Seji was found out in the village, he was usually surrounded by a couple of friends. Rinmi didn't necisarilly like some of the boys, as a select few had teased her at one point or another for being a bit of a book worm, but the young women thought it polite to ask him.

Sejiriku grinned again at the smile that appeared on Rinmi's face when he offered the trade of ramen. He gave a quick nod and gave a small chuckle as she took him up on the offer. Taking her bowl as she slid it over, the young man only paused for a few moments to listen to her speak, before he too took a few bites.
"Eat until you've had your fill. It'll be good for you, as nervous as you are. Ramen's good for that," he gave another small smile and took another bite. "And sleep'll help too. Don't worry on it too much. You're one of the best students the academy has this year, no need to stress out over which team you'll be in. I can guarantee you'll be put into a good one."
Slurping at a noodle onger than the rest, Sejiriku blinked at her following question. The noodle flicked as he swallowed it, sending a few droplets of broth onto his face, which he merely blinked at for a moment before wiping it away with his hand. "My friends? Ah, they went further into town. Rambling off about some sushi shop down the road a ways..."
With a small shrug, he poked at his ramen for a few seconds. "Sushi really isn't my thing. Besides, it's a longer walk from there back to where I'm staying. And... to be honest, they sometimes grate my nerves a little... Needed a break," he looked over at her, his head tilted to the side slightly, "And what about you? Where are those girls I sometimes see you with?"

Well that blush was back again, and it was back with avengance. She couldn't take much more of this without swooning like an idiot. Seji had just said she was one of the best Genin in their class, and as a result Rinmi's face was as red as a tomato. "I, uh...well, not really, uh...," she stammered bashfully at his compliments and went quiet with a soft smile, settling on looking at her warm meal between her hands for now. Looking at his face would have caused the girl to produce even more incomprehensible noises.
The flustered young woman was grateful that Sejiriku Raizure had answered her previous question almost immediately so as to draw attention away from her stumbling. "Oh...I think the girls went to buy new clothes for tomorrow," she half smiled with rosey cheeks in amusement, "Want to look their best I suppose..." Her friends had asked her to come, but she had politely declined. Rinmi had been ecstatic at being invited out with her classmates as it didn't happen often. But she couldn't afford a new outfit. She was lucky enough that the school gave her an allowance for attending, otherwise she wasn't sure how her parents would beable to fund her. She missed them.
"...I only did well because I had a bit of extra help from a great Sensei," she felt she had to and after a moment's silence, smiling shyly over at the firey-haired Genin.

"Now that kind of confidence'll get you no where." Came the joking response, a kind smile playing across Sejiriku's features. Leaning back in his seat, his head still tilted inquisitively to the side, the Genin gazed over at Rinmi as she spoke. Girls and their shoping... boys and their eating. It was always the same.
"Well, going with them probably would have helped your nerves more than sitting here will... But a break from people in general is always a nice thing." He gave a slow nod. It was always a nice thing for him. Too many people bothered him, for some reason, if they were all bunched about him. Being in a classroom where people gossiped and chattered until class started was bad enough.
The young man blinked, his own confident nature burst for a moment under the other genin's praise. Clearing his throat, he gave his head a small shake, though he could only hide the faint pleased smile upon his lips by lowering his head to stare at the table top. "Ah, I'm no sensei, but I am truly glad I was able to help you out. Wasn't much for me to help you with, but all the same..."
Glancing up through his red hair, still grinning slightly from her compliment, the young man gave a small laugh. "I've got some time to spend after this wonderful dinner... Anything sound entertaining to you?"

Rinmi smiled sincerely, and not from a giddy liking for the young man infront of her. She admired the modesty he gave back to her compliment; not many Genin's of his age would be grounded so well. But this expression of admiration on her part soon evolved into yet another flustered and unsure smile. Rinmi was hardly used to such attention, and now Sejiriku was asking if she wanted to do something after their dinner? To spend more time with her...
The new Genin stopped eating to fiddle nervously with the end of her long braid that had been draped across her lap so that she could avoid sitting on it. "Whatever you want to do will be perfect," she couldn't help but sound like one of Sejiriku's fan girls. She gave an awkward laugh to try and cover her eagerness but it was sure to fail. Why couldn't she just be as cool and collected as he always seemed to be?

The response he got was a little more vague than he had been hoping for, but it made him grin all the same. With a small laugh, Sejiriku jabbed at his ramen for a moment before taking a bite. Hm... What was there to do in this town? Walk... They could do a lot of walking. Shopping... No, she'd already turned that down.
Exhaling slowly, Sejiriku laid his chin in his hand, his elbow propped up upon the table as he rolled his eyes towards the ceiling thoughtfully. As he chewed his noodles, he also chewed lightly on his lip. "Ah!" He sat upright and swallowed his mouthful rather quickly when a sudden thought struck him.
"Let's go to the weapons shop. I hear they have a new assortment of weapons, lighter and easier to handle. Maybe we can find something to add to that staff of yours. Or get you some kunai, or shuriken." His head tilted to the side again and he looked over at Rinmi curiously, "I think you'd do well with shuriken. They're light, easy to throw, and if you pick things up quickly, you can learn all sorts of tricks to entertain... or intimidate people with."

Irrell, or Vega as he liked to be known, made his way through the crowds gathered around the streets. Even though it was close to night, there were still people up and about, mostly ninjas on their way back home from a mission. He envied those Genin already having a team. This Genin was nervous about who he was to be placed with. Og God how he hoped it wasn't some glory-hound with a thing about getting into trouble.
The small tabby perched apon his shoulder let out a purr then a mew, his tail flicking about and whapping his owner on the head. Taking that as a sign, the young teen sighed. "Fine, We'll go get food, just calm down, Kaku." there was a slight hint of irritation in his voice as he spoke. He turned towards the Raman house, a smile on his face as the sweet scents of the many variaties entered his nose.
Irrell licked his lips, jaws beginning to water as he neared. His stomach let out a low rumble and that was good enough for him. Picking up the pace, he nearly ran into the house, skidding to a stop before he ran into anything. Kaku let out a hss as he was nearly thrown from his perch, claws digging into the fabirc of Irrell's shirt.
"Ow you damn cat," he hissed, lifting the cat form his shoulders and setting him back onto his shoulder. His eyes searched around before he spotted Sejiriku and Rinme. A sigh escaped his lips as he forced a smile onto his face. He wasn't exactly on good terms with either of them, but of course, he wasn't picky about who he hung out with, as long as it wasn't a big crowd. "Hey," he said a tad low, walking over to the two. "You two nervous about the teams as well?" He couldn't help but ask the question.

Post by Sagara Suoh on Jan 12, 2006 21:30:51 GMT -5
The young man fiddled with his tattered gloves as he sauntered down the streets, adjusting then readjusting the worn leather weapons upon his hands. Suoh winced as he gingerly massaged his knuckles and palms; they ached from a series of physical routines, all of which included Suoh hitting something with his fists. He wasn't the fastest monk-type ninja in his class, but hell, if Suoh could land a punch -- he'd leave one hell of a mark. But that was just the problem; Suoh got so mixed up with his anger that he forgot to think clearly in a fight, which didn't help his accuracy at all. He managed pass, though, just as he always did.
The black-shirted man often wondered how had he passed his written exams and the like, but pass them he did (marginally). So maybe he wasn't the most intelligent guy in the world when it came to book smarts, but Suoh had enough common sense to get him through life.
He sighed and punched one fist into the closed palm of the other hand, willing himself to stay focused. Suoh hadn't gotten much sleep (if any) the previous night and his sour expression spoke of a sour mood. Hell, the boy was always in a bad mood, which hadn't won him may friends, but Suoh didn't care. He was happy to spend his time alone or with the few true friends he had been blessed with. An eyebrow cocked as Suoh thought of the man he was living with now. After being emancipated from his own home by his father, Suoh's friend had offered him a room, to which Suoh eagerly accepted. Said friend had also agreed to pay for Suoh's tuition so long as he agreed to work hard and pay back the loan.
The blond-haired man bit back a groan; he really had no idea how he would hope to pay the guy back, but maybe if he became a good enough ninja, he could manage something. That was as good a reason as any to try harder in his courses, or so Suoh figured.
He adjusted the Genin-band on his forehead, pushing it up in a vain attempt to get his hair out of his eyes. Defeated, he pursed his lips and blew upwards, watching as his bangs danced in the tiny stream of air. The teen then wondered idly who would be in his team, as he hadn't even had a clue.
"Hopefully not that red-headed study-obsessed jerk," Suoh thought to himself, suppressing the need to roll his eyes. Granted, Suoh didn't really know Seji, but that really didn't matter to the blond boy. Seji was smart and he wasn't, and that was enough reason for Suoh to dislike the other teen.
The martial artist planned on going to the weapons shop to secure his self a nice new pair of sparring gloves, preferably ones that wouldn't come apart at the seams from a few days worth of work-outs.
As he passed the ramen shop, Suoh's stomach made an awful growl. Had he forgotten to eat again? Apparently so, and that's probably the reason he felt so light-headed. That or the lack of sleep. Suoh shrugged it off and turned towards the shop, ambling inside without noticing the others.
He could have a very one-tracked mind at times, and at the present moment there was a single thing on the boy's mind:
Food.

Rinmi took a mouthful of cool water to try and reduce the heat that was swarming her face in Seji's presence. She devoted all her concentration to the young man's words and soon found herself smiling once again. A weapons store. Brilliant. Well anything he said would have been; she would have gone anywhere just to have him talk to her some more. Damn, there was that blush again...
"Sounds like a good idea Sejiriku," she smiled and nodded, "I am interested in some shuriken after I trained with some last week. Very interesting technique involved." Rinmi was about to stand when another deep voice caused her to divide her attention away from Seji. "Oh hello Vega," she smiled politely. She didn't know the boy very well, but Rinmi always made an effort to talk to someone if she was approached. She enjoyed any social contact she received.
"I am somewhat nervous, yes. We are just about to leave however to try and get our minds on other things," she gave a large smile and an awkward laugh up at the boy before standing herself, "Perhaps once you've finished eating you could come and look at some weapons too?" She wanted to be withSejiriku by herself, but she could never be rude or mean to someone if she really tried; she didn't know how. Except on the sparring ground. She knew how to get on someone's nerves there.
Collecting her four books beside her after flicking her long braid behind her, Rimi stood with a dreamy smile toward Seji and made her move to walk outside. The door way seemed blocked however by a rather tall Genin, and the short black-haired girl was a tad busy admiring the company she had to notice this. Heavy books hit the floor with dull thuds and Rinmi gave a surprised cry at hitting the solid figure.
"I'm so sorry," she apoligised while rubbing her head before looking up with an embarrassed smile, "Oh, hello Sagara." She gave a little bow as an extended apologee, a sheepish smile and crouched immediately to retrieve her books from the ground at his feet. Great, now Sejiriku thought she was a clutz.
